Childfree Glossary and Abbreviations
Baby rabies: When you suddenly start thinking about having children. This can occur when you spend quality time with children, experience "Kodak moments" with children, spend time with good mothers, etc.
Baby stalking: When parents talk incessantly about their children or show pictures of their children to uninterested parties.
BIL/SIL/MIL/FIL: Brother-in-law/Sister-in-law/Mother-in-law/Father-in-law
Bingo: Things people say to the childfree over and over regarding reproduction. For example: "It's different when they're your own!"
Bratleigh; Bratley; Snotleigh; Snotley: Derogatory term for offspring.
Breeder: Derogatory term for people who either have multiple children or who are bad parents.
CBC/CFBC: Childless by choice/Childfree by Choice
Childfree/CF: A person who does not want children ever for any reason.
Childless by Choice: Another term for Childfree
Childless: A person who does not have children for whatever reason, usually because they are sterile, single, or got married at a late age. These people usually WANT children but could not have them for whatever reason.
Crotch Fruit: Derogatory term for offspring
DH/DW: Dear Husband/Dear Wife
DINKs: Double Income No Kids
DINKY: Double Income No Kids Yet
Drive-by: When someone makes only one or two posts with the sole intent of disagreeing with another poster, to judge, or to start up trouble. For instance, to start a new thread wherein the poster tells the group members, "you are sad, bitter people. You hate parents, you hate kids, and I don't understand why. I respect you, why can't you respect me? You are a horrible group of people." Then they disappear.
Egg Donor: A woman who isn't very involved in her child's life; absent mother.
Empty Nester: Someone who has children but does not live with them (grown children).
Endometriosis: A medical condition associated with menstrual tissue growing outside of the uterus. This condition causes extreme pain in the abdomen and pelvis.
Fencesitter: Someone who has not yet decided if they want children.
Kodak moment: The "wonderful" parts of having children - teaching them to ride a bike, opening presents Christmas morning, etc. Not the screaming, crying, whining, diaper-changing, money-spending parts.
Meetup: A social network that has hundreds of groups, including childfree groups.
Moo: Derogatory term for "mommy"; Mother Obsessed with Offspring
Mr. Mom: A dad who stays at home to take care of the children full-time while his wife works. This is a phenomenon that is becoming more accepted by society as a whole.
No Kidding!: A social group for people who don't want children.
Oops: When a woman "accidentally" gets pregnant in order to "trap" a man into a relationship, or to keep him in a marriage.
PNB: Parent Non-Breeder; someone who is a good parent
SAHD/SAHM: Stay-at-home dad or stay-at-home-mom; full-time parent
Sex Trophy: Derogatory term for a child suggesting that the parents only wanted children to show they have a good relationship, they have sex, etc.
Snip: To get a vasectomy
SO: Significant Other
Sperm Donor: A biological father who is not involved in his child's life for whatever reason.
Sprog, Sproggen: Derogatory term for children
THINKER: Two healthy incomes, no kids, early retirement
TMIJITW: The Most Important Job in the World (referring to parenthood)
Troll: Someone who posts with the sole purpose of stirring up trouble.
TTC: Trying to Conceive
Tubal Ligation, TL: A female method of sterilization wherein the fallopian tubes are cut or tied. This is also called "getting your tubes tied."
Vasectomy: A method of male sterilization wherein the vasa deferentia is cut.
